Local SEO · THE SEARCH BRIEF

A practical starting point for local search.

Help a nearby customer understand what you do, where you work and why the next step is worth taking.

Check the basics customers rely on

Google’s Business Profile guidance explains that complete, accurate information helps it understand a business. It also describes relevance, distance and prominence as the main local-ranking considerations. A provider cannot sell control over the searcher’s location or guarantee a particular local position.

Start your own review with the information a customer needs to act: business name, opening hours, telephone number, service descriptions and the places served. Check that the website and business listing are consistent.

Match the plan to how you operate

A shop receiving visitors, a business travelling to customers and a multi-location business need different information structures. Describe the actual operating model before commissioning a batch of location pages.

Our suggested approach is to prioritise the genuine customer journey for each area. A useful page should explain the service and practical details; changing a town name in otherwise identical text is not a substitute for meaningful content.

Make the business easy to assess

Use photographs you are authorised to publish. Explain the services without exaggerated claims. Ask for genuine customer feedback through an appropriate process and give the client room to describe their real experience rather than supplying invented praise.

Place clear call, directions or enquiry actions where they help. The appropriate action depends on the business: someone choosing a nearby café may need directions; someone planning a building project may need a conversation first.

Agree what progress will mean

A proposed review can combine listing information, service-page quality and relevant recorded enquiries. Keep a record of when changes were made and distinguish visibility observations from real leads.

A sample map or coloured grid can explain a reporting format, but it should not be displayed as your result without the source, measurement area and dates. Ask for that context before interpreting a before-and-after image.

General planning guidance, not a prediction of results for your business. Review the scope and evidence before committing to a service.
